Heroic Ozruk = Hunters' Bane...Or Is He

Greetings Fellow Hunters!

By now, I'm sure most of you have had the unfortunate experience of fighting Ozruk in Heroic Stonecore. Just the other day, our guild made our first encounter with him. I was bitching and whining that there was nothing I could do to avoid Paralyze. This fight should be easy, one where hunters shine since we don't have to move at all. Just stand still and spam the rotation. I enjoy watching the tank jump around ping-ponging between the walls. However, Blizzard doesn't want you to just burn him down. Enter Ozruk's spell arsenal. Especially, his Paralyze ability, which is the most frustrating part of the fight since it is not breakable by any of our abilities. We must rely on someone to free us from our state or suffer the 50k damage when the spell expires. There is nothing worse that being stopped mid-rotation and then having your health pool halved. But, fear not! I have found the answer. It turns out you can imbibe during the fight.

That's right, the [Sulfuron Slammer]. Just before the Paralyze, make a toast to Ozruk and drink up. Upon drinking the Sulfuron Slammer, you receive a DoT of 4HP per second for 5 seconds. Just enough time to break the Paralyze yourself. Vanilla WoW to the rescue. I was rolling on the floor laughing at this most basic of solutions. I was like, "4HP per second?! How could anyone endure such a crippling DoT? I mean, my base health is only 106,000." I assume this will work for everyone. The only catch is that it makes you drunk. I mean "Drunk" like you smeared Vaseline all over your monitor drunk.

This is a wonderful exploit that will likely be short lived as it's popularity increases. So, start farming and stay thirsty my friends.

EDIT: I just realized that I forgot to tell your where to get his miraculous beverage. You purchase it from Plugger Spazzring in the Grim Guzzler Bar in BRD. You can use Direbrew's Remote for a quicker trip.

Cataclysm Raid Schedule

Hey all, With our leveling speed I thought it would be good to get a Cataclysm raid on the calendar. It would be earlier but with the holidays it rarely works. Here it is:

ALL RAIDS ARE 10PM EST

Dec 15: Regular 5s, Heroics
Dec 19: Heroics
Dec 22: Heroics
Dec 26: Heroics
Dec 29: Heroics
Jan 2: Heroics
Jan 5: Our first Cataclysm Raid

This should give everyone ample time to level and gear themselves. Please don't log in on a Wednesday or Sunday night if you don't want to run instances with your guild, it pisses me off a lot because we could really use your help. Obviously there will be a lot of holiday people out so that's why we are holding until January to raid.

IF YOU CANNOT MAKE JAN 5 LET ME KNOW.

As the date approaches I will research the raids and come up with a strategy for our first night. You guys will be expected to know the fights as usual, thanks!

Critter Killing

OK, so I got a little bored at work, but didn't want to commit to doing a dungeon (PUG's make me suicidal) or questing (trying to level with hundreds of other people in the same zone makes me homicidal). In an effort to appease my guild officers, I figured I would follow the MOTD's orders and "MURDER ALL CRITTERS OR /GKICK". I recalled that there is a nice spot in Howling Fjord (jah, da fjord!) where these stupid turkeys spawn like crazy. I fly my happy ass up there and "Hooray!", the turkeys count for the achievement "Critter Kill Squad". I tried targeting them manually and was getting pissed off, so, using my leet programming skills, I created a macro to target them and shoot them with a push of a button:

/tar [nodead] fjord turkey
/startattack

It works very well (at least for my hunter) and I killed about 500 turkeys in 30 minutes. I just ran around and pressed the "1" key. (This must be what it's like to play as a mage.) If anyone else has the time or patience, kill the turkeys so we all can get a vanity pet (I assume that's why, since that's the reward). If you find another zone with a high population of cute fuzzy critters to mutilate, then you can just replace "fjord turkey" in the macro. The "[nodead]" is recommended; otherwise, you will be targeting dead bodies (very annoying). Good luck grinding out the 50,000 kills.

Pilgrim's Peril + The Shattering = PAIN IN MY ASS!

So, in an effort to save 5000 gold, multiplied by several characters, I'm starting to think that the gold is worth it. Case in point: Now that the anticipated "Shattering" has taken place, the boats to Darnassus from Auberdine (Darkshore) have gone away. There are only a few ways of actually getting to Darnassus now.

Option 1: A new boat now comes from Stormwind docks, which are located deep inside Stormwind. There is no fucking way I am going to run all the way through Stormwind to catch a boat. So, option 1 is definitely out.

Option 2: Swim across. I tried this before with complete failure. My hunter died in the middle of the water after the "Fatigue" bar (from now on referred to as the "Faggot" bar) reached zero. Trying to get my body back, the Faggot bar appeared while I am a ghost. I didn't know DEAD ghosts could Fatigue. Guess what happens when the Faggot bar hits zero and your a ghost? YOU'RE FUCKING BODY DISAPPEARS AND YOU CAN'T RESURRECT. You have to talk to the Spirit Healer and take the 25% damage to your gear and the Res Sickness. Hooray, 100+ gold repair bill. That was before, now Blizzard had the forethought to at least make the distance to swim a little shorter. I did make it across, only after the Faggot bar hit zero again and I died. My ghost was able to run all the way across and then back-track to my body. I resurrected and swam the rest of the way just before the Faggot bar hit zero. This probably would have been easier with a Death Knight (Path of Frost) or a Shaman (Water Walking). I was doing this solo. I guess a swim potion would have helped. But, that thought didn't occur to me until I died from the Faggot bar. So, now we have made it across the dangerous water and eluded the Faggot bar. Oh, hey a welcoming party is greeting me on the shore. Oh, they are 85 elite guards. OH SHIT! They kill you in 3 hits...all Crushing Blows. And you're dead. Who has two thumbs and gets to run across the water again to fetch his body...AGAIN? THIS GUY! Alive again, I finally get through the portal into Darnassus. Oh, sweet more guards and I die just two steps from the portal. Now is a good time to mention that the goal for the "Pilgrims' Peril" achievement is to sit at the feast tables in each of the enemy capital cities. Anyone know where the tables are relative to the portal you walk through? ON THE FUCKING OTHER SIDE OF THE CITY! I yell, "Fuck you Blizzard!" And, I take the res from the spirit healer. I ride in from the entrance to Darnassus and take a seat at the feast table. I'm able to mount and get the fuck out of town.

That's one character down, 2 to more to go. That fiasco might be worth the 5000 gold to avoid. We'll see. I'm off to find a way to the feast tables outside Exodar. Wish me luck.

WoW's 6 year anniversary

Just a heads up, World of Warcraft turns 6 tomorrow. I'm not really sure that this information matters...but I can tell you that they gave away an in game gift on their last anniversary.

Either way, the Cataclysm is coming. So get in line to be railed by Death Wing!

Is there any reason to use Fubar?

So I used to use this Fubar 3.6 addon, then McQoqenspeil yelled at me for being behind the times, so I uninstalled it. Really, the only thing I used to like was the volume control and the visible money.

Does anyone still use this? Should I still use it?

Roles in Cataclysm

Can you guys do me a favor? I've been thinking about this and talking to a few about it. I think with Cataclysm looming (we assume this year) its a good time to really think about what you want to do in Cataclysm from a raiding standpoint. Feel like DPSing instead of healing? Tanking instead of DPSing? Now is the time to say that.

I encourage you to change roles or classes, keep the game fresh for yourself. Especially the shaman triplets, if any of you feel like rerolling it would be helpful as having 3 shaman is mildly retarded.

If I could get each of you to reply here with the following it would help me plan my character and role, I want to be flexible to allow each of you your choice:

Class
Spec
Role (DPS/heal/tank)
Favorite Flavor of Pudding

From Dan:
Lol, sorry guys, she can't get enough of me! Not going to be able to make it again tonight :(

Answered by Madison:
Have you tried being less sexy? I too am cursed with being "all that" and have had to try and turn it down a notch or two just to make it through the day without servicing the multitudes of waiting women. I find the most effective tactic is to grow out my dick fro and gain weight in only my left testicle. I know what your asking yourself, "how do you gain wait in a nut?" Easy friends just train yourself to only blow a load from the left nut, then the right one grows fat from laziness. You can also beat the baby maker left handed, but not as effective. So now that you have a huge bush and one fat lazy ball the only thing left to do is get a Tasmanian devil tattoo on your left bi-cep and your third grade girlfriends name in cursive writing on your right peck. If you feel the need to take it over the top I suggest a tasteful sleeveless t-shirt, preferably NASCAR if you can find one. You are now unattractive to any female with the exception of maybe the occasional trailer park whore or lot lizard. If for some reason your GF still wants you to put a baby in her, then I suggest stuffing your penis between your legs ala crying game and when she sees you tell her you've always wanted to try lesbian sex and refer to your old penis as your hate stick.

Soo..... see you at the raid tonight.

Nice raid, getting close on LK!
Read More Ninja Action!

Well, there goes that idea

Here's a recent quote from Blizzard:

"This is a notice that we’re making changes in 3.3.5 in attempts to break the ability for the AVR (Augmented Virtual Reality) mod to continue functioning. For those unaware, this mod allows players to draw in the 3D space of the game world, which can then be shared with others who are also using the mod. In some cases this manifests itself through drawing/tagging/defacing the game world, but more popularly is used to give visual guides for dungeon and raid encounters.

We’re making this change for two reasons. The invasive nature of a mod altering and/or interacting with the game world (virtually or directly) is not intended and not something we will allow. World of Warcraft UI addons are never intended to interact with the game world itself. This is mirrored in our stance and restriction of model and texture alterations. The second reason is that it removes too much player reaction and decision-making while facing dungeon and raid encounters. While some other mods also work to this end, we find that AVR and the act of visualizing strategy within the game world simply goes beyond what we’re willing to allow.

The change we’re making in attempts to break the functionality is light in its touch and approach. When blocking any functionality we run the risk of affecting other mods, but we’ve targeted the changes as carefully as possible. If we find that the AVR mod (or any mod attempting to replicate its functions) are usable after 3.3.5 we will take further, more drastic steps."

So, looks like we should all uninstall now because even if it continues to work we could get banned for using it. We actually used this mod for raiding, but it WAS a bit like a cheat mode. I guess we'll have to kick LK's ass the old-fashioned way!

Arthas Lich King Strategy

This will be updated with the latest Arthas strategy!

LICH KING

PHASE 1
- LK Should be taken to the edge of the platform, around where the large cracks are.
- ALL dps on LK. Give the MT several seconds before DPSing.
- Range dps and healers should be 12 yds away from the LK on the cracks.
- OT should be at the edge of the platform ready to pick up the shambling horror. The horror must be 12 yds from both the LK group and the heals/range group. Face the horror away from the raid. Hunter should MD the horror to the OT.
- The horror has an enrage mechanic and hunters or rogues should counter this.
- MT needs to pick up smaller ghouls as soon as they spawn. DPS Should periodically throw in AOE to help thin these mobs over time.
- Infest damages everyone slightly, just heal them to 90% to remove it. Keeping the raid hotted makes this ability inconsequential.
- The key to this phase is managing Necrotic Plague. As soon as someone gets it they have 4 seconds to run to the shambling horror. They must stand closer to the horror than anything else around them, and they must be cleansed. The plague will jump to the horror, they run back and continue DPS. Marking the "plague target" Horror with a skull helps in this phase.
- Phase 1 lasts until 70%.

1-2 TRANSITION
- Everyone must move outside the cracks, as the AOE constantly present during this phase hits everything within them.
- The OT (if he still has a shambling horror) must move the horror to the edge of the platform in such a way that the plague won't jump to anyone else when it jumps. He will need cleansed one final time after the horror dies.

PHASE 2
- People should be grouped up on one side of the platform and ready for DPS.
- Varztok should be assigned the frost orbs as they spawn, they have only 6k health.
- LK will summon raging spirits originating from a random raid member (3 in total). They should be tanked facing over the edge of the platform, as they have a frontal cone silence ability. All dps should concentrate on these. They have 750k health.
- LK will cause slight raidwide damage via a lightning attack throughout this short phase.
- the OT should tank the 3rd and final raging spirit so that the MT can pick up the LK at the end of the phase.
- Phase 2 lasts 60 seconds.

2-3 TRANSITION
- As the LK begins casting quake, everyone should run to the middle.
- Be careful to avoid getting anywhere near any remaining frost orbs as you run
- Stay away from the front of the final remaining raging spirit
- Finish off the final raging spirit after the raid is in position

PHASE 3
- Start with the raid centrally grouped in the inner circle but spread out a bit, a Val'kyr will come before the first defile.
- The tanks will be getting hit by Soul Reaper. After a tank is initially hit, the OT will need to taunt off. The original tank needs to be healed quickly before the 5 second duration expires and they take an additional 50,000 dmg. The tanks will need to do this for the duration of this phase. In an ideal world Syeris can solo this ability, freeing Wlade up for slowing the Val'kyr and helping us DPS them down. We should try this first.
- As soon as a Valkyr grabs someone, Killbasa must Icy Chains it (need to determine control sequence). They have 450k hp. ALL dps on the Val'kyr, stuns slows and snares are important.
- As soon as the Val'kyr goes down, spread out.
- On Defile casts, everyone MUST be away from the target, which should stay still or run to the edge of the platform. When the defile finishes casting, the defile void zone will land on them where they are currently standing, so they should keep moving to escape it asap. Dropping these in good locations is key.
- Phase 3 lasts until the LK hits 40%. As the LK approaches 40% the tanks should move the boss to the edge in preparation for remorseless winter.

3-4 TRANSITION
- This transition seems key. If the LK is low enough to move him out it makes sense to do that so the raid is ready for remorseless winter. If val'kyr come during this part you have to decide whether to burn the val'kyr or take LK to 40%, making the val'kyr drop harmless (as the floor will be there again). We just need experience for that.
- Everyone should run to the very edge of the platform. LK will start his AOE again which will extend the platform. You must again all be outside the cracks to avoid taking damage.

PHASE 4

- BLOODLUST HERE
- In this phase he will summon raging spirits a bit more quickly, resulting in 4 appearing instead of 3. The MT and OT should take turns picking them up and the raid should burn them down immediately.
- We can expect to carry two raging spirits into phase 5.
- Phase 4 lasts 60 seconds.

4-5 TRANSITION
- The OT should taunt any remaining raging spirits so the MT can continue to tank LK. Melee DPS should continue killing the raging spirits until they are down.

PHASE 5
- The LK should be grabbed by the MT and taken to the far edge of the platform until vile spirits are summoned.
- LK uses defile again in this phase.
- As soon as vile spirits appear, all range DPS should focus them down while staying at max range. The MT should pull the LK to the complete opposite side of the room during this first 20 seconds, so they spirits have to travel farther to reach them. They have 66k health. Warlock Seed of Corruption works really well here, Anna may be required.
- After 20 seconds of DPS on the spirits, they will target a player and run after them. They ARE susceptible to stuns, snares, taunts, etc. They should be kited and killed. The OT can taunt them to help with this process.
- Sometime while the first group of vile spirits are chasing the raid, LK will target someone and cast Harvest Soul on them. They need constant healing for 6 seconds, after which they will enter frostmourne and have to perform their duty there. If they are a DPS they need to help DPS the mob. If they are a healer they need to heal the good guy. He channels an 8 second cast that will kill Terenas at the end if he is not stunned or interrupted in some way.

*** I WOULD LIKE TO TRY THIS STRATEGY FOR PHASE 5 FIRST ***

SPLUG- "As the spirits trickle down one or two at a time, you don't really have to worry about multiple spirits hitting the same player, either. We found that even without bothering to taunt them at all, or move, or kill them, or really pay attention to the spirits beyond spreading out and healing, we were able to increase our damage to the boss without putting players in significant jeopardy. It's worth mentioning that melee will need to spread out if there is no offtank taunting spirits that were heading toward them."

"Honestly, have one of the tanks respec DPS and have the fury warrior go prot. Put vigilance on the main tank and run to a corner and spam taunt the spirits. I did this in my alliance guild on my own warrior and out of 3-4 vile spirit waves maybe 2 hit anyone but me. Paladins and druids are both completely capable of solo-tanking the soul reaper. By doing this you also can put absolutely zero dps on them and just burn lich king the whole time. (we had an elemental shaman and warlock as our only 2 ranged in that group)"

- It seems like if we can get Syeris or Wlade to single tank the LK, the other can taunt spirits away from the raid and absorb most of the incoming damage.

- The fight ends when LK hits 10%.

Raid Report 3/28

Nice raid! Two new bosses down, totally badass all around I think. Here is the report.

Also, tonight I would like your help if you are free at 11EST, which is now 8AZ time. If you have an alt who hasn't done the weekly (Noth) I am going to pug it on Mcqoqenspiel for the emblems. I would love some KS help if possible. Thanks!

Short but quick last night, seemed alright. We'll try and get further into ICC this week for sure. Looks like the spec is working AJ, you edged me out :P

Raid Report 3/17

Please take 5 and inspect your results. It's very important that you check damage taken and damage done, as well as healing done if that is your role. Check your important buffs, did they have a 100% uptime like they should? Take the time to do this so we improve as a group.

Sunday will be ICC10 and then TOGC10 or more Ulduar possibly.

Here is the list of sit-outs:

Raid Report 3/14

Raid Report

Good raid! Mark sat out, so here is the list:

Ebeneezer, Mookaa, Killbasa, Syeris. Will need another volunteer on Sunday. On Wednesday I may not be there, but it's looking like I will be due to no sitter! I will keep you updated. Please work on your gear as you have time for it. See you Wednesday!

Raid Report 3/10

First, good job! I had a lot of fun and I think everyone else did too. I saw this addon which you may want to get, it answers the question "how the hell did I die?".

Addon.

Here is the report.

Let me know what you want to do Sunday. I'm fine going right back into Ulduar to be honest, but we could start with ICC if you like. We can also extend Ulduar next week to really work on this stuff. Comment here with opinions or send them out in email. Thanks!

Jer.

PS. List is Ebeneezer, Mookaa, Killbasa. Will need another volunteer on Sunday.

Raid Report 3/7

Here it is!

17 attempts, 17 wipes. I'm glad we stayed pretty happy through all of it, and I think we definitely improved. Let's just make a point of trying to get some new gear for Wednesday.

In other news, I am going to try and pug VoA 10 tonight, if you guys sign in I will bring as many of you as I can. I'll probably hang out in Mumble with Mark working until we win it and then sign on to get the 2 frosts. Thanks all!

Jer

PS. Thanks Dlow
PPS. List is now Ebeneezer, Mookaa. Killbasa is up next.

Raid Report 3/3

Raid Report

Nice raid! I'm going to start putting reports here so we have a nice history going forward, and can better track who had to sit out any given raid. On Sunday, plan to head right to Festergut (after doing the zombie dance), who I think we will down easily. Remember to watch these videos before Sunday:

Festergut
Rotface
Professor Putricide

As for Ventrilo, I would love to hear your thoughts. I prefer Mumble personally because we own it and I don't think Ventrilo really improved anything for Mark. I do appreciate Lade letting us use that though, thanks. My thought is that since Mark is buying a new router, we try Mumble again on Sunday.

Regarding sitting out, hopefully no one gets ass-hurt about it. Seemed to be ok for me. It's rare we have everyone anyways. Officially, Ebeneezer sat out last night. Who would like to volunteer for Sunday? If no one does, we will just choose someone then through peer pressure and intimidation.
